Top 10 Reasons Why Owners Get Stuck Bribing there Puppies
1) Start/continue to have sloppy handling skills
- the 3 modalities of communication:
- Leash
- Verbal
- Body Language
- good timing that capitalizing on certain points of interactions between you and your dog...those "boom" moments.
2) Hands are constantly on food/or living in your pockets.
3) Start with high value treats, often dubbed as "puppy crack."
4)No exit strategy/no plans to decrease rewards/guidance while increasing your puppies responsiveness (this goes hand in paw with reason #1).
5) No leash or lack of understanding on how to use the leash.
6)Not teaching your puppy how to look at you. If your puppy isn't staring or at very least constantly visually checking in with you then you're bound to have problems. Your puppy's nose, ears, brain and body are going to go where ever his eyes lead him. I don't want your puppy staring at the food non-stop or scanning the horizon or the ground just looking for something better than you to engage with.
7)Lack of understanding of the 3Ds
- Distance
- Distraction
- Duration
8)Lack of assigning numeric value to their puppy's:
- environment
- quick situational fluctuations
Lack of assigning numeric value to your puppy's state:
- motivation
- general comprehension
- muscle memory
9)Not using your hands effectively.
10) Lack of disciple/your psychological tie to the food because on the surface it makes you feel like you are training your dog...which is not true the food is:) It's okay that I said that, cause you were feeling it either deep down in your gut or maybe you just flat out know it.
